Our History
Tibbetts Brook Chapel began in the District 38 School which was built in 1909. School was held there until consolidation around 1965. It served as the Page Town Hall, also. Later it became a little church in the countryside. The first church was with the American Sunday School Union, and later the ASSU became the American Missionary Fellowship. Tibbetts Brook Chapel was officially established in 1995, becoming a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Spiritual leaders over the years have been: Pastor Elsworth Moritz, Butch DeRosier, Larry Cornelius, Carl Salgren, Bruce and Roxanne Schmidt, and Rev. J. Gorman. For two years the church was without pastoral leadership, and during that time Larry and Dilly Salgren held it together in faith that the Lord would provide both shepherd and sheep. Since 2008, Rev. Teresa Nelson has been serving at the church, with Larry Salgren serving as lay-pastor. Pastor Nelson leads the congregation in services, teaches the Word of God, conducts Baptisms, Holy Communion, Baby Dedications and funerals.
In order to accommodate a growing membership the congregation elected in 2011 to lease the new Page Town Hall for worship services and other functions. Tibbetts Brook Chapel focuses on outreach, with participation in the "This Side of Heaven", Gospel Sing-along, Cowboy Church, Family Fun Nights, and other special events.
Bruce and Lori Thompson's InFaith Mission, Camp Evergreen scholarships, a missionary in Southeast Asia, Bruce and Jan Johnson's New Tribes Missions in Bolivia, South America, the Milaca Area Food Pantry, Life Choices Center, and Jim Werronen with Street Life Ministries of New York City are all ministries that Tibbetts Brook Chapel have in the past or are currently supporting financially.
In 2011 Larry and Dilly generously donated lovely rural acreage for the purpose of establishing a Tibbetts Brook Cemetery.
Pastor Teresa Nelson has been serving the church since 2000, originally part-time, then full-time in 2015.
Throughout the years, Tibbetts Brook Chapel has hosted several events to spread the Gospel. Some of them were: Vacation Bible School,
Family Fun Days, Blaze Orange Sunday's, and Cowboy church. Three Baptismal services have been held with several people publicly testifying to their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord at the church or in the Rum River.
In 2018, the church held a second service in March- August. It was called GPS - God's Positioning Service, and was held monthly at the King Sparrow Coffee and Soda Shop, Milaca, MN.
In Dec. of 2018 and 2019, Tibbetts Brook Chapel hosted its first annual, "Country Christmas Variety Show". It featured talented local artists with a variety of talent including skits, music, and games.
